EXP is short for Experimental, which is how we view the Cobb Family Vineyard. We originally planted nine grape varieties selected on their suitability for Texas' climate, today, we grow 16 different types in the experimental vineyard block. 2014 was the first harvest for this vineyard, planted in 2012 and remains one of the very few wines produced in the Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country AVA.
We decided to field blend all fruit into one wine, including white grapes. The wine matured in 100% new French Oak for 18 months prior to bottling in June 2016.
This soft bodied blend has a bouquet of smoke, violets, candied raspberry and vanilla. The palate shows intense notes of cedar, tobacco leaf, cranberry and rosewater with a balance of clean minerality, high acid and soft supple tannins.
